The Story Behind the Door: Ever wonder the possibilities of an old door and a bit of imagination ?

We had a bit of a dilemma with the design of our new home.  Where do we put the front entry closet?  We didn't have one in our previous home and always wished we had one.  In this home design, they did have one but we felt it was an obstruction.  No matter where we moved it on the plan we just didn't like it.  So, we made the decision to take it out. Once again we didn't have a front closet.  What we did have, was a nice amount of floor space at the front entrance to work with.

This idea came to me last summer as we were building.  One Sunday we attended our daughter and son-in-law's church.  One of the songs we sang that Sunday morning touched me.  I thought to myself, "I want those words somehow displayed near the front entrance of my home." (Look for the the words printed below.)  Personally, I normally don't care for poems, verses, quotes or words on my wall or part of my artwork. But I thought maybe if I designed something a bit more abstract I could pull it off and actually like it.

My home is a bit more on the contemporary side, so I have decorated it with just a few older re-purposed items to warm it up.  This door is one example.  It pulls in the colors of my house, as well as the outdoors. The knobs are from pieces of driftwood found from walks on the beach of Lake Michigan near where we live.  The colors and design  are bright and abstract with a touch of graffiti influence.

Best of all I now have a place to hang coats for friends and
visitors when they come to visit.

Is this something you would be interested incorporating in your house?  I would sell this one or paint and construct one for you with your favorite colors, quote, verse or words of inspiration.  If you are inerested in more information and pricing, please contact me at amy@amygreving.com.

Here are the words of the song:

SPEAK, O LORD  KEITH GETTY
Speak, O Lord, as we come to You
To receive the food of Your Holy Word.
Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,
That the light of Christ might be seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith.
Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us
All Your purposes for Your glory.

Teach us, Lord, full obedience,
Holy reverence, true humility;
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
In the radiance of Your purity.
Cause our faith to rise; cause our eyes to see
Your majestic love and authority.
Words of pow'r that can never fail—
Let their truth prevail over unbelief.

Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds;
Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us
Truths unchanged from the dawn of time
That will echo down through eternity.
And by grace we'll stand on Your promises,
And by faith we'll walk as You walk with us.
Speak, O Lord, till Your church is built
And the earth is filled with Your glory.

Speak, O Lord, as we come to You
To receive the food of Your Holy Word.
Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,
That the light of Christ might be seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith.
Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us
All Your purposes for Your glory.

Teach us, Lord, full obedience,
Holy reverence, true humility;
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
In the radiance of Your purity.
Cause our faith to rise; cause our eyes to see
Your majestic love and authority.
Words of power that can never fail
Let their truth prevail over unbelief.

Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds;
Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us
Truths unchanged from the dawn of time
That will echo down through eternity.
And by grace we'll stand on Your promises,
And by faith we'll walk as You walk with us.
